Abstract

The root of the Javanese Ginseng plant (Talinum paniculatum Gaertn) is one of the medicinal plants used because it contains saponins. Efforts are needed to increase saponin content in plant roots. This study aims to determine the effect of potassium fertilizer dosage and frequency of watering on root biomass and saponin content of Javanese ginseng (Talinum paniculatum Gaertn.). The study was started from March to May 2019. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) arranged in a factorial manner. The first factor the frequency of watering (A) consists of 4 levels, namely A1 = watering once a day, A2 = watering once every 3 days, A3 = watering once every 5 days, A4 = watering once every 7 days, while the second factor is the dose of potassium fertilizer (K) consists of of 4 levels, namely K0 = 0 kg KCl / ha, K1 = 500 kg KCl / ha, K2 = 750 kg KCl / ha, so there are 12 treatments, each treatment is repeated 3 times. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using the F test with a level of 5% and continued test of LSD 5%. The results showed that the application of potassium fertilizer at a dose of 750 kg KCl / ha with watering every 7 days resulted in the highest saponin content among other treatments. while the application of potassium fertilizer at a dose of 750 kg KCl / ha with watering once a day produced the highest biomass compared to other treatments
